Jessica Hughes BA (Hons) MA
Jessica is the music therapist that offers the service at Music Therapy Wales. As a qualified music therapist, Jessica is professionally trained at postgraduate level and is regulated by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Jessica is passionate about developing music therapy in Pembrokeshire and South West Wales where access to therapy in rural communities can be difficult. She believes that there is a great need for additional support for vulnerable children and adults in this area and strives to make extra support for these people available.
She has engaged in clinical work with a range of different clients including:
– Older Adults diagnosed with Dementia
– Children and Young Adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
– Children with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), and
– Individuals with Brain Injury and/or Neurodisability.
This clinical work has been on a one-to-one basis as well as group work. Within all therapeutic work music is used creatively to help clients address social, emotional and physical difficulties. The therapist establishes an interaction through shared musical experience in the pursuit of therapeutic goals. These goals are determined by the therapists understanding of each client’s pathology and personal needs.
