
Jessica Hickman-Hughes BA(Hons) MA
Jessica is the Music Therapist that has offered the service at Music Therapy Wales since 2016. As a qualified Music Therapist, Jessica is professionally trained at postgraduate level, is regulated by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the British Association of Music Therapy (BAMT).
Jessica is passionate about developing music therapy in Pembrokeshire and South West Wales where access to therapy in rural communities can be difficult. She believes that there is a great need for additional support for vulnerable children and adults in this area and strives to make extra support for these people available.
She has engaged in clinical work with a range of different clients including:
- Older Adults diagnosed with Dementia
- Children and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Children and Adults with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
- Individuals with Brain Injury or Neurodiability
- Children and Adults Mental Health in both Primary and Secondary Care Settings
Clinical work takes place on a one-to-one basis as well as within a group. Within all therapeutic work music is used creatively to help clients address social, emotional and physical difficulties. The therapist establishes an interaction through shared musical experience in the pursuit of therapeutic goals. These goals are determined by the therapists understanding of each client’s pathology and personal needs, are person-centred and client-led.
